Organic Lawn Care Works So Much Better!

Some of you may already know about my organic sustainable landscape & lawn business,Thrive-organic sustainable land and lawncare, for those of you who don't...here we go!
I promote organic landscaping and lawn care for several important and exciting reasons. For one, it works...my lawn started out as pasture grasses, broadleaf weeds, and the bane of my existance, the sand bur, otherwise known as STICKERS. We have been terrorized by stickers since we moved here 14 years ago. I'm a non-herbicide chick so..we lived with it. Last fall i took charge of this situation by using an organic sustainable approach. I'd like to share my lawn care secret to success with all of you, my friends!
-Biodynamic Vortex Brewed Compost Tea-This treatment adds live microbes, biodynamic nutrients, weed control, humic acid, heat stress prevention. This Tea is superior to all other compost teas. The ingredients are based on BioDynamic, Homeopathic, & Subtle Energy Concepts.
--It includes Earth Compound (also available at OOGS) Finest Compost Tea Inoculant on the Planet! Genuine BioDynamic Compost made in whiskey barrels. Hand selected ingredients buried for up to a year. Earth compound  is used for Compost Tea, Stand Alone in Hydroponics & Soil, or as`a field spray.
--It includes Earth Tonic, that gives your garden everything it wants with over 90 trace elements instead of the standars 16, contains Live Ocean Water, Himelayan Crystal Salt, Plus Colloidel Clay & All 9 BioDynamic Preparations making ALL other products work BETTER! This increases yields and enhances the flavor of your foods.
--It includes Strapped Molasses- over 10 beneficial actions promoted. Sweetness, flavor, essential oil production, aroma. taste!
--It includes kelp that has beneficial plant hormones and reduces heat stress emensly.
Benefits of using Compost Tea:
Compost tea is used for two reasons: 1) to inoculate microbial life into the soil or onto the foliage of the plants, and 2) to add soluable nutrients to the foliage or to the soil to feed the organisms and the plants present. Compost tea can be used any time that the organisms in the soil or on the plants are not at optimum level. Chemical based pesticides, fumigants, herbicides, and some synthetic fertilizers kill a range of the beneficial microorganisms that encourage plant growth, while compost teas will improve the life in the soil and on the plant surfaces. High quality compost tea will inoculate the leaf surface and soil with beneficial microorganisms instead of destroying them. Compost tea is a liquid produced by leaching soluable nutrients and extracting bacteria, fungi, protozoa and nematodes from compost.
Tea production is a magical witch brewing process. This process must stay aerobic. Non-beneficial organisms can grow rapidly in reduced oxygen conditions. Using only high quality compost tea such as that available at OOGS contain bacteria and fungi, protozoa, and possibley nematodes which will be the best for your gardens and lawns.
a) Improve plant growth as a result of protecting plant surface with beneficial organisms
b) Improve plant growth as a result of improving nutrient retention in the soil, and therefore reduce fertilizer use, and loss of nutrients into ground and surface waters.
c) Improve nutrition by increasing foliar uptake as beneficial microorganisms increase the times stoma stay open, while at the same time reducing evaporative loss from leaf surface.
d) Reduce water loss, improve water-holding in the soil, and thus reduce water use in your system.
e) Improve soil structure. Only biology builds soil structure, and ALL the groups in the food web are required to be sucessful.
Vortex Brewed Compost Tea promotes the health of your whole landscape. Apply it 1 gallon per 500 sq ft. area when applying to lawn and landscape. Our Vortex Brewer at OOGS holds 15 gallons and can be made in large batches to cover the whole landscape. 528-GROW for more info or to have it applied professionally by Thrive-organic sustainable landscapes and lawn health contact Kim Campbell at Herbwild@aol.com or leave a message or text at  (405)312-3230 for Thrive Clientelle

Organic Fertilization Program--Magnificent Earth Organic Fertilizer Plant Food & Soil Conditioner

*Stickers are lean eaters, they do not dwell well- where there is ample nutrition. I use a product called Magnificent Earth Organic Fertlizer-Plant Food & Soil Conditioner . It is an all purpose organic based complete nutrient rich fertilizer. Packaged in a 40lb.bag that covers a little over 1000sq ft. at maximum usage dose for lawns and turf. 30 lbs. per 1000sq ft. It consists of Soybean Meal, Sunflower Meal, Alfalfa Meal, Dried Cane Molasses, Corn Gluten Meal, Yeast Culture, Diatomaceous Earth, Dried Kelp Meal, Langbeinite, Limestone, PhosphateRock, Magnesium Mica, Sulfur, Iron Amino Complex, Zinc Ameno Acid Complex, Manganese Amino Acid Complex.
Can you pronounce all that, why yes, yes, you can..organic based nutrition..hmmmm, what a wonderfully novel idea! This is all your plant needs as far as nutrition goes. It is friendly to your plants because it produces a slow release of nutrients, breaking down over several weeks through natural break down process and elimininating the chance of burning your lawn, garden or shrubs. This results in a controlled growth rate reducing watering and mowing frequency, which saves time and money.
Each application builds organic matter into the soil. This results in reducing heat and cold stress better than when conventional chemical fertilizers that are used over periods of time. Its about build the soil full of nutrients that you, your children and pets can walk on safely. This magic plant food builds density in turf, naturally choking out weeds. There is also corn gluten meal included which serves as an organic source for pre-emergent weed seed eradication. Corn gluten naturally prevents weed seeds from germinating. That is the weed part of the weed & feed bags fertilizer. So this Magnificent Earth naturally weeds & feeds non- chemically!! It is world class fertilizer that just happens to be organic!
-Live Nematodes- & Live Myko
That about sums up my health program for lawns and landscapes. I will be posting pics of the areas treated compared to un-treated...the contrast is amazing!
Thanks for reading, tell all your friends to follow..
-Blessed be, Kim

Green Witch Plant Magic

Wise Woman Ezine - September 13th, 2012
The Rugged Rumex - Rhubarb, Sorrels and More ...

The heat is having a final fling here in the east, with daytime temperature back in the 80s and 90s.

But the leaves are turning red, purple, orange, brown, and yellow, and falling to the ground. The peaches, pears, apples, and plums are ripe and ready to harvest. Yes, autumn is underway. Lots of work (and play) for those who follow the green path.

Shall we continue our walk focused on those great dancers, the many-knees sisters, the Polygonaceae family? I hope you have found one or more of the smartweeds and knotweeds we looked at last week.

This week we will meet the Rugged Rumex branch of this family, also know as the Sour Sorrel Pucker-up Troupe. Like the smartweeds and the knotweeds, these sisters are found all over the world. Sometimes referred to as “docks,” the leaves and roots of these hardy plants make big medicines and delicious meals.

What shall we make with the docks we find? Yellow docks are big medicine. Shall we dig the roots and make an iron tonic? Rhubarb root is even bigger medicine. Shall we dig a rhubarb root and tincture it? I think not. It is a bit too early yet to dig roots. Perhaps we will make a yellow dock seed vinegar? Hmmm. I have it! Let’s make Sorrel Soup. It’s one of my fall favorites since I can serve it heated or chilled, depending on the weather.

Grab your baskets and some scissors. Let’s go kiss some pucker-up sisters.

Green blessings.

Included in this issue is Remedies for Hairy Problems by Susun S. Weed

Too much hair (on the chin), too little hair (on the scalp), falling hair, thinning hair, greying hair - no matter what the complaint, many women notice something happening to their hair during menopause. As hormone levels shift during the menopausal years, hair responds to the changing hormones by changing texture, falling out, or by growing in "odd" places. This article includes remedies for those who want more hair, and for those who want less.

Understanding Organic Gardening & Why Chemical Fertilizers, Herbicides, and Pesticides do more harm than good in the garden.

When we garden with chemicals we kill most life forms residing in our soils. These microscopic life forms are called microbes Microbes are the power house workers that are involved with decomposition and processing organic matter into nutrients that a plant can utilize and turn into food. Without these microbes plants suffer more from disease and pest susceptibility.

Most of the general public believes what they are reading and seeing on advertisements. The labels on the lawn and garden products isle at home improvement centers have beautiful and colorful pictures of blooming flowers and vibrant vegetables and fruit. They advertise miracle cures from blue powdered chemical nutrients. Have you ever seen blue manure or compost or wormcasting or bat guano? Microbes cannot feed off chemicals, they need organic matter to feed from. By using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and disease control we kill off the very organisms that feed our plants. that's their whole purpose on the planet, processing decomposing organic matter into elements plants can feed from and thrive.

When a chemical user kills off all the beneficial soil life he has to use more and more chemicals to keep up the appearance of plant health and vigor. It's in a way like crack for plants. Chemical fertilizers give plants energy but no beneficial nutrients for the extended life of the plant and it's surrounding media home.

What can we do to reverse this unhealthy garden practice?

1) Add compost, Back to Earth, humus, humic acid, quality brewed compost tea, worm castings, kelp, fish emulsions, bat guanos, bone meal, blood meal, cottonseed meal, Strapped molassess, coco fiber, glacial rock dust, used grodan.

2) Add live miccorhizzae and nematodes. These little babies fight the bad guys in the soil world. Mykos feed off the dead root tissues keeping them bright and white and full of fight...fight for more nutrients and water that is. Mykos help with nutrient uptake by keeping plant root tissues open and flowing productively.

3) Stop tilling your soil. Soil tilling releases all the good carbon we need to stay put in the soil. Every time we till the soil carbon is released into the air generating greenhouse gasses. There are some really great books out there available on No-Till Gardening, Ruth Stout Hay Method is another.

4)Plant cover crops during winter months in areas to be planted with food crops in the spring.

5) Rotate crops and incorporate companion planting

Do these simple steps to witness better garden health from the ground and on up. Stop using all chemicals in the garden. It's not good for you, your family, or the earth.
